OSTG Artist Wayne Baize grew up near Abilene, Texas around working ranches. He has firsthand knowledge of his favorite painting subjects: the contemporary cowboy and his livestock.
​
Wayne learned the value of a good horse at an early age. As a youth, he helped break horses. Later, Wayne and his brother, Arlon, raised registered Quarter horses. The cowboy artist and his wife, Ellen live in Far West Texas near Fort Davis on a small ranch where they raised four children and run registered Hereford cattle.
In 1995, Wayne Baize was invited to become a member of the Cowboy Artists of America. Being a member of the CA is the fulfillment of a dream, but also a challenge-- members are challenged to continually be improving their art. Wayne has served as a director in the organization, and as vice-president and recently, president.
He has won a silver medal in drawing and the TCA Award, Best Portrayal of a Cowboy Subject, at the CA Annual Show. With numerous other awards, Wayne Baize art has been featured in major magazines including WESTERN HORSEMAN, THE CATTLEMAN, QUARTER HORSE JOURNAL, THE HEREFORD JOURNAL, and TEXAS MONTHLY. In 2017, TEXAS COUNTRY REPORTER filmed a spot with the Fort Davis artist at Old Spanish Trail Gallery and Museum.
