BETTYE COOK

Bettye worked as a medical illustrator after graduating from Rice in 1948 with a BA in English.  She was one of the first art directors for KCBD, the Lubbock NBC affiliate. In the mid-1950's, that meant Bettye did everything manually, from setting type to simple animation. She truly learned as she went.

Bettye freelanced in commercial art after moving back to Houston as she and her husband Dave raised their family. In Midland and later, Lubbock, Bettye taught secondary English and science.

The watercolorist now resides in Ransom Canyon outside Lubbock. She is the mother of three, grandma of six, and greatgrandmother of five, and shares her lakeside home with a spoiled Bichon and assorted South Plains wildlife.

Bettye Cook has always delighted friends and family by drawing personalized cartoons celebrating special life moments. She took up watercolors and acrylics after retiring. Studies under Lubbock's Jo Beth Gilliam and numerous workshops under other watercolor painters expanded her technique. She is a longtime member of the West Texas Watercolor Society.

Bettye Cook's richly colored florals, portraits and landscapes display the precision and strong drawing skills that have followed her through so many kinds of art.

Feel free to contact the Ft Davis gallery to confirm the availability of any Bettye Cook original watercolor shown here-- Lindy Cook Severns is her eldest child, and will be delighted to help you acquire her mom's art.
